The Clavel family is deeply linked with the Languedoc region as Pierre's father, Jean created the Coteaux du Languedoc Appellation now known as Languedoc AC.
Clavel means "nail" in the old southern Occitan language hence the nails on their labels.
The estate is situated at the back of Montpellier in Assas, 20km inland from the Mediterranean Sea which gives a strong influence to the Clavel range.
There are 3 terroirs over a total of 35 ha:
Mas de Périé, where the estate is situated since 1986 and where the wines are made and matured. A wonderful site with the cohabitation of vines, truffle, olive trees, wheat, bee hives and more.
Pic Saint Loup, one of the most famous terroir of the Languedoc region with a limestone scree on the slope and some stone and clay at the base of the mountain. A very pretty and aromatic site with the Alep pines, wild rosemary and thyme.
Montpeyroux, a terroir of altitude at 350m above sea level with a very clacareous soil surrounded by fruit trees.
Each wine is a products of their terroir, naturally the Clavel's family work to perserve their identity with the intensity of the fruit and the generosity of the Mediterranean.
Domaine Clavel is certified organic, and always combine several agriculture on their land to reach the best balance in their wines.
Today, Estelle Clavel is in charge of the estate along with Antoine and Martin, their sons.
